The City of Lawrence has owned and operated the Lawrence Regional Airport (LWC) since its dedication at this location in October 1929. LWC is one of the oldest, continuously-operating airports at its original location in Kansas.
LWC averages more than 105 daily flight operations of single-engine, twin-engine, business jets and helicopters. Hetrick Air Services, the Fixed-Base Operator, has been serving local and visiting aircraft since 1983 with a complete range of aviation services including fuel, repairs, flight instruction, aircraft rental and charter services.
Lawrence Regional Airport is an FAA-designated regional airport located approximately three miles north of Downtown Lawrence on East US Highway 24/40. With a Class I Instrument Landing System, LWC is an outstanding all-weather airport for recreational and business aircraft operators.

Aircraft Fueling Safety Reminder
Lawrence Regional Airport is committed to maintaining a safe operating environment for all airport users.
As a federally obligated airport, Lawrence Regional Airport is required to comply with applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety guidance and nationally recognized aircraft fueling standards, including FAA Advisory Circulars and NFPA 407, Standard for Aircraft Fuel Servicing.
Airport users are reminded that aircraft fueling operations should be conducted in accordance with these standards, including:
- Aircraft fueling should be conducted outdoors. Aircraft being fueled should be positioned so fuel vents and tank openings are at least 25 feet from buildings or hangars and 50 feet from any boiler, heater, or incinerator room.
- Mobile aircraft fuel servicing vehicles should remain at least 25 feet from buildings during fueling operations.
- Fuel servicing vehicles should not be positioned within 10 feet of aircraft fuel vent openings.
- Emergency vehicle access must remain unobstructed during fueling operations.
These requirements are established to reduce fire hazards, protect airport users, and promote safe aircraft fueling practices.
