Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical is a division of the City of Lawrence. We provide the community with emergency medical services, fire suppression, basic and technical rescue, tactical medic, disaster preparedness planning and response, hazardous materials mitigation, community risk reduction, fire investigation origin and cause, fire prevention, and public education programs to the city of Lawrenceโs and Douglas Countyโs residents, businesses, and visitors.
The agency is consistently working to achieve and/or maintain the highest level of professionalism and efficiency on behalf of those it serves, and thus, contracted with the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) to facilitate a method to document the organizationโs path into the future via a โCommunity-Driven Strategic Plan.โ
Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responds to almost 13,000 calls for service from seven stations and two support facilities. A staff of 164 committed men and women deliver comprehensive emergency response, public education, and protection services to the City of Lawrence, the University of Kansas, and the Haskell Indian Nations University.
In 2015, department celebrated its 100th anniversary as a municipal fire department and has joined an industry-leading group of only 38 internationally accredited agencies to attain an ISO Class 1 rating.
