19th St. to close between Haskell Ave. and Harper St. for Maple Lane project
Beginning Tuesday, July 15, City contractors will begin the next phase of the Maple Lane improvements project which requires closing 19th St to through traffic. This phase will extend the current construction area further south and fully close the intersection of Maple Lane and 19th St.
Both east and westbound 19th St. traffic will be detoured to 23rd St. between Haskell Ave. and Harper St. 19th St. will be temporarily reopened to traffic in both directions, and the 23rd St. detour will be removed for the Douglas County Fair starting on July 25. During Fair Week, Maple Lane will remain closed on both the north and south sides of 19th Street, but event traffic will be able to utilize 19th St. to access the fairgrounds. Project work will resume on 19th St in early August, which will require closing 19th St again.
The project team is completing infrastructure improvements on Maple Lane north of 19th St. Paving and other restoration activities continue in the early phase areas of the project, north of 19th St, and should be completed by end of September 2025.
The original project schedule showed the 19th St phase to last into Summer 2026. The overall project is ahead of schedule and the temporary closure of 19th St before the Fair will allow the contractor to continue progress. To learn more about this project, visit lawrenceks.gov/mso/maple-lane
