City announces closures and service alterations for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday

City offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. City services and hours will be altered as shown below:

Solid Waste: There is no delay in solid waste collection for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. All solid waste collection will happen according to your regular collection schedule.

Parking: Parking meters and lots will be free on Monday, Jan. 19. The parking services customer service window at 933 New Hampshire St. will be closed for the holiday.

Transit: Lawrence Transit will be operating some fixed routes, as well as regular T Lift and On Demand service. Routes 1-10 will operate as usual. Routes 11 and 12 will operate a reduced schedule. Routes 30-53 will not operate. Central Station will be closed for the holiday.

Parks, Recreation and Culture: Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open on Monday, Jan. 19, from 8 a.m. to dusk (weather permitting).

All other Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, for the holiday, including the administrative office and cemeteries office in South Park, Indoor Aquatic Center, Prairie Park Nature Center, Community Building, East Lawrence Recreation Center, Holcom Park Recreation Center, and Sports Pavilion Lawrence.

Please note: It is new this year that all recreation, aquatic, and administrative facilities will close on holidays where City facilities are closed. A list of facility hours is on our website: lawrenceks.gov/prc.
