The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Lawrence for its 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
“We’re proud to receive this certificate — our 34th time earning this recognition,” said Rachelle Mathews, Director of Finance. “It reflects our sound fiscal stewardship commitment to being open and clear about how public dollars are managed. At its heart, it’s about trust — making sure residents, taxpayers, and leaders can access and understand how resources are used to support our community.”
The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The City of Lawrence is one of 21 governmental agencies across the state of Kansas to receive an award for 2024 annual reporting.
