Lawrence Loop

Due to the ongoing winter storm, City facilities, including City Hall and all Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities, will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 18. This is due to the forecasted winter storm resulting in dangerous travel conditions.

The Lawrence Loop is a series of connected trails that, when completed, will provide a continuous urban greenway over 22 miles long around the city of Lawrence. The Loop is an important part of Lawrence’s unmistakable identity and provides residents and visitors alike a safe and secure way to experience Lawrence by walking, wheeling, or biking. Building and maintaining the Lawrence Loop reflects the City’s commitment to contributing to the health and well-being of all people.

Completing the Lawrence Loop

The map below shows plans for future development of the Lawrence Loop. Three segments of the Lawrence Loop still need to be completed, and planning for these segments is being done through an update to the Lawrence Bikes Plan.

2026 and Beyond

As part of the approved 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Plan, the City of Lawrence has allocated funds for continuing progress on the remaining sections of the Lawrence Loop. Those plans include:

  • Iowa Street Pedestrian Bridge Construction [anticipated in 2027 as part of KDOT’s K-10 expansion project]
  • Downtown Section – 7th Street to Constant Park [TBD]
  • Queens Road to Kasold Drive [TBD]
  • Michigan Street to Sandra Shaw [TBD]
