Due to the ongoing winter storm, City facilities, including City Hall and all Parks, Recreation and Culture facilities, will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 18. This is due to the forecasted winter storm resulting in dangerous travel conditions.

Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Admission

Membership is required to enter City of Lawrence recreation facilities including Sports Pavilion Lawrence®, Holcom Park Recreation Center and East Lawrence Recreation Center. For the first three months of 2026, an evaluation of the Community Building will be conducted. It will remain open and free for use by the public during this period. All annual memberships are valid for one-year from the date of purchase. (Ex. An annual membership that is purchased on Feb. 23, 2026 will be valid through Feb. 22, 2027.) Memberships purchased prior to January 5, 2026, will be valid through December 31, 2026.

About the Facility

Constructed in 1940, the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., was originally designed as an armory. It now serves as a recreational and fitness facility for the entire Lawrence population. The building had been renovated since and has been a popular place for everything from playing basketball to holding a wedding reception.
