Location: City’s Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St., east of 11th and Haskell, over the railroad tracks.

Cost: $10 per standard truckload and free for all self-loaders. For residential use only.

Lawrence community compost is made from the weekly collection of residential yard trimmings, which includes grass, leaves, garden prunings, and small woody waste.

What can I do with brush and trimmed tree limbs?

Set it out in cans, carts or compostable paper bags by 6a.m. for curbside collection on Mondays through mid-December. Woody debris can also be dropped off on Saturdays from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. through mid-November at the city’s Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St. Cost is $3 per truckload.

Do I need a business license for my home business?

The city does not require a license for a home occupation; however, registration of certain types of home occupations is required. A home occupation where an employee and/or customers/clients come to the site requires registration with the Planning Office. Call (785) 832-3150 to learn more. A home occupation where residents use their home as a place of work, with no employees or customers/clients coming to the site such as artists, crafts people, writers, and consultants do not require registration.

Does the city reserve spaces for meetings and special events?

Yes, the Parks and Recreation Department reserves indoor space for meetings, receptions and parties at each of its recreation centers, aquatic facilities and the Union Pacific Depot. The department also rents park shelters and gazebos at 13 different locations throughout Lawrence.
